PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) represents and regulates the largest body of professional acupuncturists in the U.K.

Health, Safety and Professional Conduct

Acupuncture has been demonstrated to be a safe therapy when practised by suitably qualified practitioners. All needles are pre-sterilised and single-use only.

Members of the BAcC are subject to the same standards of conduct that you would expect from your G.P. Patient confidentiality is key and modesty respected.

Further information may be found at Health, Safety and Professional Conduct

Academic Standards

The British Acupuncture Accreditation Board sets academic standards for those wishing to enter the profession. Trainees are required to successfully complete a full-time three year honours degree (or equivalent) in Acupuncture.

Statutory Regulation

The Department of Health has recommended the statutory regulation of Acupuncture through the Health Professions Council as soon as is practicable. The BAcC is a key part of the consultation process in achieving this by the target date of 2010.
